Nathan Leney

Fishing has shaped my entire life. Involving myself deeply in all fishing disciplines across both the Europe and International markets from an early age. That foundation became the springboard for a career built inside Pure Fishing, where I worked directly with some of the most influential global brands in the industry including Abu Garcia, Berkley, Shakespeare and more. My background is rooted in product development, innovation, and brand creation. Years spent inside Pure Fishing’s ecosystem taught me how to spot emerging trends early, translate angler behaviour into meaningful product opportunities, and drive ideas from concept to commercial success. I’ve led products through the full development cycle—design, refinement, testing, positioning, and launch—ensuring they not only reach the market but stand out in it. I’m energised by building products that genuinely move the needle, and by helping brands navigate the complex European launch landscape with clarity and confidence. That commitment to innovation and strategic execution is the foundation of Outdoor Eye: Empowering new and growing brands to bring smarter, better, more relevant products to anglers everywhere.

Outside of work

I spend my time fishing, tinkering with his Landrover and wild camping along the rivers and lochs of Scotland.

Head of Content Creation

Mark

As our content creation lead Mark has a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling, Mark brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the Outdoor Eye team. As Head of Content, he oversees the creation and execution of compelling content strategies that resonate with audiences and elevates brands. Mark’s background in content creation, combined with his passion for the fishing tackle industry, enables him to craft engaging narratives that capture the essence of our mission and vision. Whether it’s developing insightful blog posts, captivating social media campaigns, or informative product descriptions, Mark ensures that every piece of content aligns with brand values and objectives.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys exploring new fishing spots on his boat and staying up-to-date with the latest drone tech!

Head of Design

Alex

Alex brings a perfect blend of creativity and technical expertise to Outdoor Eye as our Head of Design. With a background in industrial and graphic design, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of product and visual design, ensuring our products are not only functional but also visually striking and innovative. Alex’s keen eye for detail and his passion for pushing design boundaries allow him to create unique and memorable designs that resonate with our target audience. His ability to translate complex ideas into elegant and user-friendly designs has been instrumental in establishing our brand’s distinct identity.
Outside of work when he’s not sketching out new concepts or refining designs, Alex enjoys exploring new world foods and trying to train his dog!

Cris Caanen

I graduated with a Master of Science in Strategic Management from Tilburg University in 2007. My master’s thesis explored how to regain market share in the Dutch fishing equipment industry—an early signal of where my career would eventually lead. After 17 years working across marketing, sales, and entrepreneurship, I returned to the fishing tackle industry as Category Marketing Manager – Predator at Shimano, one of the world’s largest and most respected tackle brands. During my time there, I developed European marketing strategies and led market‑introduction plans for some of the continent’s most influential products, including Poison Adrena, Twin Power, Vanquish, Power Aero, Sustain, Vanford, and Stradic rods and reels. I collaborated closely with European product development teams, marketers, and top professional anglers to translate strategy into compelling content across 18 European countries. In 2025, I met Nathan and started talking about providing value to aspiring fishing tackle brands from Europe, Asia and the USA. By combining our experiences from Shimano and Pure Fishing we created a unique consultancy service for new and existing brands that want to grow their business – Outdoor Eye was born. I personally focus on Strategy and Marketing for the business. I am a seasoned marketeer, business consultant and have 30+ years of European fishing experience. My academic background is the foundation but as an entrepreneur I really learned what it means to compete, market products and execute strategies into the real world. Within Shimano Europe I learned what it takes to be successful in the European fishing tackle industry. 

Outside of work

I am 43, an outdoor and BBQ enthusiast, experienced diver, rock climber and traveller. I visited 32 countries and 162 cities on my travels and always found time to visit fishing shops and investigate regional fishing techniques.

Cris is a master craftsmen, he can utilise a chainsaw better than most can use a knife and fork!
